Known in the Western world as Avicenna, Ibn Sina (Arabic: عبدله وله) is a Persian polymath who flourished between 980 and 1037 CE. Among his many accomplishments, he is most famous for his contributions to the fields of Medicine, Philosophy, Mathematics, and Astronomy.

Abd Allah ibn Sina (Abd Allah al-Sina) is the full name of this Persian polymath. In the field of Medicine, he wrote the renowned Al-Qanun (Al-Tibb) “The Canon of Medicine”, which became the standard reference in Islamic and European medical schools for centuries to come. The “Canon” compiles the medical knowledge of its time and serves as a guide to various fields of medicine, such as Medicine, Physiology, Pathology, Pharmacy, and more.

Ibn Sina also wrote philosophical works such as “The Book of Healing” and “Book of Salvation,” which dealt with various topics such as logic, ethics, and psychology, as well as the nature of reality, among others. In addition to his medical writings, Ibn Sina also contributed to mathematical, astronomical, and chemical sciences, and developed important ideas about optics and wrote extensively about light and color. His works had a significant impact on the Islamic world, as well as Europe in the Middle Ages and later centuries, and they continue to be recognized and valued for their breadth of contributions to multiple disciplines.
